APEX Scholarships

To be eligible for an APEX (A Path to Excellence) scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

  • Priority will be given to individuals who work at least 15 hours a week at a licensed child care or preschool center in San Miguel County

  • Second priority will be given to home care and substitute teachers

  • Individuals must be taking courses through an accredited university or college (for higher education courses) or International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accredited courses

  • Professional development courses must align with early childhood care and education

  • For higher education, scholarships will be only approved for Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes, Spanish 101/102, or required classes for a degree/certificate in ECE (individuals must provide proof that they are a degree/certificate candidate)

  • Individual must receive a B or higher in ECE course work and a C or higher in general course work OR passing grade for professional development

  • Scholarships will be reimbursements to the individual or center (whoever pays for the course provides receipt)

  • Individuals must provide Strong Start with formal documentation of completion and/or grades to receive reimbursement

  • Reimbursements will not be awarded retroactively

  • Reimbursement will cover the cost of tuition, course fees, and textbooks.

  • Individuals must complete the APEX application found at https://strongstart.smapply.io and provide proof of lawful presence as required by C.R.S. 24-76.5-103

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please complete your application prior to your class to guarantee funding.
